On July 25 2017 the documentary movie “Legs 16” about Tasmania, Tasmanian caves, and cave spiders (Hickmania troglodytes) and glow worms featured at the International Congress of Speleology at Penrith Leagues Club, Penrith.

The documentary features footage from a 2015 field expedition to Tasmania by Dakota Piorkowski and Hamish Craig to collect spiders and spider silks, and glow worm silks.

I went along and watched the movie and was thoroughly entertained for the 2+ hours of its running. It combined good science, including interviews with many notable arachnologists (including Dakota) with artwork, public engagement, broad commentary, and humour, with appearances by Stephen Fry, Adam Hills among notable comedians. Congratulations to Niall Doran for putting it together.

This, by the way, coincided nicely with the acceptance of our first manuscript from that expedition.

We are planning a follow up expedition in October.
